A DA councillor was assaulted with a glass jar which cut him - while an ANC councillor was also injured. Both were carried out in stretched and taken to the hospital

The party's caucus council leader, Biks Ndoni, says that kind of violent behaviour is totally unacceptable and has no place in a constitutional democracy.

He said the ANC caucus would be seeking a speedy meeting with the DA-led coalition so that a platform for resolving tensions and disputes is agreed upon.

"We call upon all people within the Nelson Mandela metro to practice restraint - so that events of this nature are not repeated again. We'll ensure that our councillors understand their responsibilities and also serve their committees with dignity. We want to appeal to all our members to respect investigations to be carried out by law enforcement agencies," he said.

Meanwhile, the DA has been openly criticizing the ANC on social media, following yesterday's incident.
