'Violence has been normalised in KZN'
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
Mass murders in KZN occur because criminals no longer fear the justice system.
That's the view of UKZN crime expert and criminologist, Witness Maluleke.
"We are in a situation where we have normalised violence. In KZN, killing someone seems necessary and it's justified as a means of resolving conflict," he says.
At least 15 people have been killed in three separate shootings in the province in the space of a week.

In the latest incident, three family members were murdered in Folweni, south of Durban on Sunday night.
Police have established a task team to probe the attacks. Maluleke says officers need to team up with communities to tackle these crimes.
"For it to change, we need to understand that police are still working in isolation," he says.
