Victim, suspect killed in botched house robbery

Durban police are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old man from Newlands West.

Officers say the man was fatally stabbed while trying to fight off a robber who broke into his home, yesterday.
The suspect was later shot dead by the victim's father - who's believed to be a policeman.

Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says a HiFi system and cellphones were stolen.
"The father managed to get his firearm, the suspect produced his firearm - which was later discovered to be a toy gun. The suspect was shot dead in the house," she said.
A case of murder, inquest and house robbery is being investigated.
