Verulam residents fume after a week-long water cuts

A local councillor says a work stoppage by contractors is to blame for the water supply problem in a Verulam community.

Trenance Park residents say they've had to make do without running water for more than a week. 


Dravina Ramai says the residents were approached by a businessman who was willing to sell then water. "Unfortunately, we don't have the funds at the moment, we are all strapped for cash." 



She's appealed for help as the country observes National Water Week. Meanwhile deputy councillor for Ward 59 - Christopher Langa - says he'll be meeting with residents today.

"The issue of the water is that the contractors on strike, so now they are trying to drag all the work within areas of eThekwini. Contractors don't want to work, especially with the issue of tankers in the area of Trenance Park." 


"That's why we are going to meet the committees of the area to discuss the issue on what is the way forward."



Earlier, eThekwini said that load shedding imposed last week had interrupted power supply to the City's bulk treatment facilities and installation plants. It's affected systems in Umlazi, Verulam, Ntuzuma and Pinetown. Stage 1 of the scheduled power cuts is underway.
