Verulam residents told new Northern Aqueduct ‘fully functional’ by June

eThekwini Municipality has assured frustrated Verulam residents the new Northern Aqueduct will be fully functional by early June.
It’s hoped it will end the erratic water supply in areas north of Durban.
The city's water department, along with officials from the KZN legislature's Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Department of Cooperative Governance, met with the Verulam Water Crises Committee on Friday morning.
The community has been told the new Northern Aqueduct will see 1200 new pipes transporting water directly to various areas, including Phoenix and Verulam.
Acting deputy head for water operations, Jabulani Mayise, said this will ensure supply reliability in the north.
"There won't be any increase in water that is available after that. We urge consumers to check their behaviour so that everyone can have water, especially in the Phoenix area”
On Wednesday, eThekwini was forced to shut water outlets in the northern parts to build up adequate water supplies in its reservoirs.
