Verulam police yet to identify man killed in shack fire

Verulam police have opened an inquest docket after finding a man's body in his home on Hilltop Drive, near Verulam.
According to police, community members saw the shack engulfed in flames on Saturday morning and tried to douse the blaze with buckets of water.
But the 27-year-old was declared dead by paramedics later, after firefighters arrived to extinguished the fire.

The police's Nqobile Gwala says they're still trying to establish the man's identity.
"At this stage, no name can be released as well as details about where the man is from. We are trying to get that information. But because of the fire, it's still unknown," Gwala said.
