Verulam Mosque head reacts following bail ruling in 'explosives' case

The chairperson of the Imam Hussain Mosque in Verulam - north of Durban - says they respect the decision to grant bail to 11 suspects linked to a fatal knife attack there.

The local magistrate's court granted the suspects bail yesterday. 

In addition to the death of Abbas Essop, the group are also accused of several bomb threats in and around Durban. 

The Hawks arrested the suspects who have alleged links to ISIS last month.

The mosque's chairman, Azad Seedat, says they had been hoping for a different outcome to the application.

"This is not the ideal outcome that we wanted. Nevertheless, we accept the magistrate's outcome and look forward to the actual trial. We are convinced that they will come back. These are not people that will run away," he said. 

The accused are expected to return to court on the 22nd of February.
