Verulam man accused of mom's murder to remain in custody

A man has appeared in court in connection with the murder of his mother.

Sixty-two-year-old Ormilla Samdath was found stabbed to death in her home in Everest Heights in Verulam on Thursday.
Police say her son, 38-year-old Shalendra Samdath, was arrested a day later.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecution Authority in KwaZulu-Natal, Natasha Kara says he appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
"The matter was postponed to the 12th of July of 2021 for bail consideration. The accused will therefore remain in custody."
