Vehicles returned, suspects nabbed as SA, Mozambique agreement starts bearing fruit
Police Minister Bheki Cele says at least 23 vehicles that were stolen in South Africa and found in Mozambique have been returned to their South African owners since the signing of a joint action plan against transnational crime in February last year.
Cele and Mozambique's interior minister, Pedro Ronda, concluded a two-day bilateral technical working group in Maputo that started on Monday.
He said the partnership between the two countries has also seen the arrest of over 140 suspects.
They have been linked to cross-border vehicle theft syndicates at the Manguzi border post in northern KZN.

Cele says a man believed to be behind a spate of kidnappings is also due to be extradited back to Mozambique.
"At the end of the day, it is not about us. It is about the people of both sister countries, the Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of South Africa - that they must feel the impact of our coming together and their safety must be felt by them, and they must witness that, indeed, we are working on their behalf by feeling that they are safe."
