Vandalism and theft blamed for Durban's water woes
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The Democratic Alliance has called for immediate intervention from police in the Ugu District, where serious acts of sabotage have been reported recently.

It says vandalism and theft of water infrastructure in the Municipality and eThekwini, have continued unabated.
Residents in Durban's city centre yesterday were left without running water.
The municipality said vandalism was to blame.
Last week, Ugu communities were hit by disruptions that officials said were due to sabotage.
The DA's Rishigen Viranna says they've written to Provincial Police Commissioner, Khombinkosi Jula and have requested urgent intervention. He says some residents have pointed fingers at disgruntled former municipal employees:

"These events of sabotage have been occurring since 2016.
We are incredibly concerned about the numerous acts of vandalism on the KZN South Coast that has now resulted in almost 200 000 people being without water.
We call on the Police Commissioner to send down specialised and experienced investigators to investigate this matter."
