Van Reenan's Pass closed following crash
Emergency officials are on the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles on Van Reenan's Pass, that has claimed one life and left two trucks on fire. Update: The entire road has been opened to traffic.Traffic flow has restored.
The N3 Toll Concession says the Van Reenans Pass area is closed indefinitely.
The Concessions Con Roux has urged motorists to use alternative routes.
"Van Reenan's Pass is currently closed after a crash involving three heavy motor vehicles - two collided head-on while the third sideswiped those two. The vehicles are on fire.
"The consequence of that is the roadway is closed in both directions. We are advising motorists to use alternative routes," he said.
While Netcare 911's Chris Botha says a critically injured man has been transported to a hospital in Ladysmith.
"Fortunately, there were people at the scene who immediately pulled one of the drivers out although he had sustained very critical injuries. The paramedics arrived there and found that another person had died. Firefighters are still battling the blaze," he said.
