US-SA trade situation can still be saved

Agbiz CEO John Purchase says the organisation is confident the Agoa situation can be saved.

This after US President Barack Obama gave 60-days’ notice of South Africa’s possible suspension from the African Growth and Opportunity Act last Thursday.
The impasse relates to sanitation and food health regulations that are blocking US exports of chicken, beef and pork to South Africa.

''We should get it done and get rid of this uncertainty that it is creating and the hot air that is now being blown across the Atlantic between South Africa and the United States.
''Our position means we are still confident that an agreement can be reached in the next 60 days,'' he said.
