Dr Reuben Brigety II gave a lecture on transformational change at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Edgewood Campus on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking afterwards, he told reporters that an official ANC conference policy document says nothing positive about the SA/US partnership.

He says even the US's HIV/AIDS programme in the country is not mentioned.

"We spent billions of dollars to literally save the lives of an entire generation of South Africans.

"Nothing about the size and the strength of the American business sector in South Africa, nothing about the size of the tourist sector, with the United States being the number one source of tourists coming to South Africa with an economic impact of billions of dollars a year.

"So this suggests to us that the ruling party, because this is their official document, does not view the United States as an effective partner."

Brigety says they will continue to engage the ANC.
