UPDATE: Fire extinguished, two treated in Blue Waters hotel fire
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana and Shaun Ryan
Emergency services are at the Blue Waters Hotel on the Durban beachfront after a fire broke out in the transformer room on the first floor.
Management at the hotel say the building was evacuated and that the fire has now been extinguished.
Some residents living adjacent to the hotel say they heard a loud explosion this morning before thick black smoke started billowing from the building.
The road around the hotel has been cordoned off and people are gathering on the promenade.
Eyewitness Rehana Mahomed who lives in a building near the hotel has described the incident.
She says there's a lot of activity in the area.
National Emergency Assist Services' Regan Stander says the fire has been extinguished.
