Parents and health professionals can now digitally test and ascertain whether children are suffering from any form of ear disease.
HearScope is an application accessed via mobile phone working in conjunction with a pen-like otoscope which captures images, and video of the ear canal and ear drum.
This serves as a diagnostic tool and helps parents monitor their young one's ear health.

Audiologist and lead inventor, Professor De Wet Swanepoel says ear infections are a common condition amongst children.
"Ear infection is the second most common cause for children to visit their doctor. If you can diagnose it accurately, you can provide people with the right interventions straight away," he says.
With this invention, symptoms can be detected and treated early.
HearScope will be launched on crowdfunding site, Indiegogo on August 1. Social media users can connect to the international digital launch here.
