Untu members accept Transnet wage offer
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Transnet employees
who are members of labour union Untu are returning to work on Tuesday.
This after the majority union signed a three-year wage deal with management yesterday.
The deal brings to an end an almost two-week-long strike that hit commodities exports and led to supply chain delays.
Under the agreement, workers will receive a 6% wage increase this year.
Their pay will go up by 5.5% next year, and 6% in 2024.

The deal includes medical aid subsidies and housing allowances.
Transnet's Ayanda Shezi says their priority is to start clearing the ports and rail cargo backlogs.
"Prioritising urgent and time-sensitive cargo and implementing recovery plans working with the industry and its customers.
“As Transnet, we appreciate the support that we've been receiving throughout this period from all stakeholders including the CCMA, government, our customers and industry broadly.”
Meanwhile, Satawu says it's disappointed by the development.
The union views the 6% backdated increment as a betrayal to workers because it's below the inflation rate.
It's planning on intensifying its strike action.
