Unrest over wage talks increases risk of load shedding: Eskom

Eskom has released a statement warning that the risk of scheduled power cuts for today is high.
This is due to ongoing wage negotiations between management and workers. But the utility says load shedding will only be introduced if absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile Eskom says some staff members are being intimidated by disgruntled groups.

The utility's Khulu Phasiwe says employees at Matla, Duvha and the Koeberg power stations were intimidate. While a truck was hijacked and a conveyor belt destroyed at Duvha.
He says it's concerning because all the stations are synchronised to feed the national grid.
"We are urging all our customers - across the nation to be energy efficient so that they can help us reduce the load on the power system. So far, things are working for us but we don't know for how long. Unfortunately, we still have those acts of intimidation. People are being intimidated in places where they live - making it difficult for them to go to work," Phasiwe said.
