Unrest, infrastructure, GBV must top Zikalala Sopa agenda – opposition parties
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The DA in KZN has called on Premier Sihle Zikalala to draw up effective measures to prevent and stop any violence that threatens people, homes, and businesses.
Party provincial leader Francois Rodgers was speaking ahead of Zikalala's State of the Province Address on Thursday.
He's been reflecting on the looting that rocked KZN in July last year.
"After the July anarchy, I think that is critical. I really think we need to know what the problem was. We need to know who has been held accountable and what the consequences are going to be."

"On infrastructure, how much money was used, how much money was not used and had to go back to National Treasury because if we failed to spend money, while there is great unemployment in our province and as a country we are failing the people of KwaZulu-Natal," says IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa.
EFF KZN leader Vusi Khoza says crime and the land issue are big concerns.
"We expect him to deal with the issue of crime since we know that KZN has now surpassed the Western Cape as the murder capital of the country, unemployment - particularly youth unemployment, gender-based violence, murder.
"Lastly, the issue of landlessness, our people are still stuck in squatter camps and there is no end in sight to homelessness."
