Unregulated taverns, shebeens raise concerns in Inanda
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Police Minister Bheki Cele says schools, churches, and clinics in Inanda are outnumbered by taverns and shebeens.
He says the other issue is the location of these informal pubs.
Cele was speaking at a crime imbizo at the Dr JL Dube Stadium on Tuesday.
"We will be strict and we will work within the precinct within the book to make sure everybody who runs a shebeen follows the law."
Community members raised concerns over challenges to rid the area of crime.

Cele acknowledged the need to improve policing.
"If you put clinics here, there are 121 schools and churches in this policing precinct. There are 136 shebeens and bottle stores, it is one thing we should look at and not really interfere with the economic activity but to understand that the very same economic activity if not properly regulated can give us crime."
