Unions demand weekend pay for Home Affairs employees

Home Affairs offices across the country are closed for a second weekend in a row, with no agreement reached with unions over payment for Saturdays worked.
Home Affairs Minister, Hlengiwe Mkhize, says talks are proceeding well to try and negotiate weekend work payments.

Ministerial spokesperson, Bongiwe Gambu says talks started on Monday.
"The unions have requested some time to go to their constituency and consult on the proposed [options] for the resolution of the dispute. An agreement will be reached hopefully in the next coming week. Until then, unfortunately, home affairs offices will not be opened on Saturdays," he said.
