Union tells striking eThekwini staff to return to work
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The national office of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) has urged its members in eThekwini to report to work while efforts to negotiate a wage increase continue.

Workers have been on strike for exactly two weeks, bringing service delivery to its knees.
Municipal workers say they want their salaries to match their counterparts in other metros, demanding a 15% pay hike.
In a statement, SAMWU General Secretary Dumisane Magagula says the union met with Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda last week, where an agreement was reached to hold a workshop on benchmarking and salary levels.
This was followed by talks with the provincial Cooperative Governance Department on Monday, attended by Minister Thembi Nkadimeng.

The meeting appointed two department officials to facilitate the two-week workshop.
The municipality's urgent interdict against the striking workers remains in place.
SAMWU says the interdict should be dismissed.
It says it's sending legal representation for a group arrested for violence who are appearing in court on Wednesday.
