Unemployment rate drops slightly in first quarter

There were fewer people without jobs in South Africa in the first quarter of the year.
Stats SA says the unemployment rate dropped to 34.5%, after reaching record 35.3% in the previous three months.

The agency says around 370 000 jobs were gained between the final quarter of last year and the first quarter of this year.
The Labour Force Quarterly Survey, which was released on Tuesday, found that the biggest gains were recorded in community, social services, manufacturing and trade.
Jobs were lost in private households, finance, construction and agriculture.
Joblessness among youth remains a major worry, with 63 percent of those aged between 15 and 24 and 42 percent of 25 to 34 year-olds without jobs.
Youth aged 15-24 years and 25-34 years recorded the highest #unemployment rates of 63,9% and 42,1% respectively.
