Updated | By Steve Bhengu
eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says Durban is under siege from criminals, including vandals and thieves.
During an executive committee meeting on Tuesday, Kaunda said there would be a crime summit to find solutions to the scourge.
Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says while a date has not yet been announced, the event is likely to happen sooner as they look to urgently protect people and the city's its assets.

"We have seen recent crime statistics, it is one of the reasons, therefore, that we are spurring into action so that we come up with initiatives that are going to assist us to rid our city of criminal activity.
"But also, we have got a challenge that our infrastructure is getting vandalised whether you are talking about water, sanitation and electricity infrastructure.
"Now, after it has been vandalised, we have to fork out money to replace that infrastructure and we are spending millions of rands each and every year."
