Unclear how many South Africans stuck abroad: Dirco

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says the number of South African who are stuck abroad trying to make their way home is not clear.
Several countries across the globe have instituted travel bans in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced three billion people into lockdown and claimed more than 21,000 lives.
In South Africa, 709 people have tested positive for coronavirus and while no deaths have been reported, two people are in a critical condition in hospital.

The department’s Lunga Ngqengelele says they are working with several countries to assist South Africans who want to come back home.
“We are calling on South African to contact our missions abroad, especially in the country’s where they are stuck, so we can easily communicate with them.”
