Umzinyathi loses over R300-million due to corruption and wasteful expenditure
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Umzinyathi District officials say those responsible for wasteful expenditure and corruption that has cost the municipality just over R300-million will face the music.

"Nobody was made to account for all this loss. It totals R300-million."
Petros Ngubane, the mayor of the IFP-led administration, has told Newswatch they have rejected the findings of an initial report by Treasury and have instead established their own investigation which should take a few months.
Ngubane says this is necessary as the previous ANC run administration had been dogged by controversial claims.
"All these reports had recommendations which were not implemented and we are told there are ghost workers, but we are still going to investigate further. We are going to start by suspending people," he said.
