Umsunduzi works to fully restore power supply following outage

The Umsunduzi Municipality says the cause of a massive power outage that left almost half of Pietermaritzburg in the dark for about two days has been resolved for now.

The municipality's Thobeka Mafumbatha says weak and ageing infrastructure is to blame. She says the city's northern areas had no power since Sunday.
"There was pressure on the valves and we ended up experiencing [issues] with supply. Quite a number of areas were affected - including Prestbury and the greater Edendale.
"We do apologise to the consumer for the inconvenience and we are working tirelessly to ensure they receive uninterrupted service delivery," she said.
