uMsunduzi says it's significantly reduced the need for planned power cuts in several areas in Maritzburg.
It says municipal teams have been carrying out scheduled maintenance in parts of the city.
Overhead lines linking two substations, Riverside Primary substation and Heisketh Primary substation, were serviced on Thursday to sort out issues in Hayfields, Lincoln Meade, parts of Bishopstowe (A and B) Darvil, Bellevue and Hollingwood.
These areas were left without power for several hours.
uMsunduzi's Ntobeko Mkhize says their teams had planned on working on Saturday as well.
She has also cleared up the confusion over their maintenance plan, saying some residents believe they'll be left in the dark for 48 hours.

"What the alternative means is that if they were to be unforseen circumstances and we moved the operation to Saturday, it's not meant to be a power outage for two days.
“We've been dealing with a number of faults that has been disrupting over and above the load shedding that has been sapping power supply to the community of Msunduzi .
“Therefore these planned outages are intended to ensure we repair the lights.”
