Through its Qoqa Amamillion campaign the city has recently hit back at those found to be benefiting form illegal connections.
Also those who were heavily behind their payments were not spared.
The campaign resulted in litigation by a local business owner who had been found to be profiting and operating on an illegal connection.
uMsunduzi's Municipal Manager, Lulamile Mapholoba, says the court then ruled in their favour.
Mapholoba says there is still a chance for those whose accounts are in arrears or benefiting illegally from power connections to come forward.
"Everybody must pay for the consumption of the services that he or she is getting. If you are over indebted you come forward to make the necessary arrangements for you to pay what you owe, so we are very happy and pleased that the court has agreed with us.”
