uMsunduzi eyeing policy change amid threats to councillors
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A policy that would make it easier for councillors to receive protection
from threats is being considered by uMsunduzi officials.

The municipality says it's concerned about ongoing attacks on councillors, with two lives lost in the Moses Mabhida region recently.
A local government report says close to 20 councillors were gunned down in KZN over the past 10 months.
Salga expects the violence to continue as political tensions build ahead of next year's elections.
uMsunduzi's municipal manager Lulamile Mapholoba says current policy takes too long to implement protection for councillors.
"Crime Intelligence must come and do an assessment and it takes about 12 to 18 months for you to get a report and that period you find that threats don't stop and at times councillors are killed.
"What you want to do is to look into a policy that will enable the municipality to provide security to councillors in the intervening period while they still waiting for the assessement."
