The municipality led by Mayor Sizwe Sokhela has undertaken to intensify its assistance for qualifying students. Delivering his 2021/22 draft budget mayor Sokhela said his municipality has realised how easily dreams have been crushed due financial hurdles.

Student protests have also become a common scene in our country as many fight to break financial barriers.

As part of his budget mayor Sokhela announced they would set aside a sum of 1 million Rands to help with student registration.

"For this year we have allocated R1 million for youth development. We have conferred with management to ensure they review their policies especially when it comes to procurement to ensure there is at least a certain percentage reserved for youth in terms of municipal outsourcing", he said.

Following the tabling of his draft budget he says the next step is to now hold public both physical and virtual public consultations so that members of the public can have their say.

"We are requesting members of the public visit our website which is www.umngeni.gov.za so they can share their input. We also have a WhatsApp number which is 066 488 1953", Sokhela said.
