Umlazi toddler killed in home collapse to be buried this weekend
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The family of an Umlazi toddler who died after his home had collapsed on him during a powerful storm at the weekend says the child had been fast asleep with his mother and teenage sister at the time.
Luyanda Madlala from eMhlabeni informal settlement near Mangosuthu University of Technology was a year old.
His uncle Sibusiso Madlala says neighbours rushed the child to hospital but he had already passed away.
Madlala says this is a difficult time for his sister.
"When the wall fell, the shack collapsed on my sister and her kids in bed, she sat up and could only see Samke but Luyanda was buried under the sand on the bed. She screamed for help and neighbours managed to pull him from under the sand," he said.
Little Luyanda will be laid to rest this weekend.
