Umlazi records highest number of murders in SA

Contract crimes such as murder, attempted murder, robbery and assault have gone up in the country.
That's according to the South African Police Service, which released the latest crime statistics on Tuesday morning.
The figures for the fourth quarter of 2022/2023 show an increase in the murder rate of 3.4%.
There's been a decrease in sexual offences of 4.3%.

Major-General Norman Sekhukhune briefed Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police.
He said the top two stations for murder are once again in KwaZulu-Natal.
"Umlazi was the highest and second was Inanda those are the first two stations in terms of the top 30 both in the province of KwaZulu-Natal."
Police Minister Bheki Cele says over 6200 people were killed in the country (6 289) either by a firearm, knife, sharp and blunt instruments in the three months.
Cele says to address murder and other contact crimes, 65 million has been allocated to top 30 crime heavy police stations..
"Over and above this additional funding, we are responding direcly to calls by communities to increase the capability and training of the Tactical Response Teams (TRT).
"The TRT are being deployed at stations and districts in identified high crime areas.
"These highly trained and highly skilled officers will act as force multipliers at local level and assist in policing high-crime areas."
