uMkhanyakude manager's appointment 'irregular': KZN IFP
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The IFP is demanding that the Department of Co-operative Governance set aside the appointment of uMkhayakude's municipal manager or risk facing legal action.
The party made the call at a press conference in Durban today, saying the appointment of Sibusiso Bukhosini was irregular.
IFP provincial secretary, Velenkosini Hlabisa claims Bukhosini had worked with the mayor before and even had him as a reference on his CV.
Hlabisa says the manager was one of five applicants for the job - four of whom pulled out at the last minute.
He says they are not questioning Bukhosini's ability to do the job but rather the process of his appointment.
"When we went through the legal opinion, we discovered that it indicates a number of serious flaws that make the whole process irregular and as advised on page 8. It reads as follows - it is our considered opinion that the post must be re-advertised as soon as possible to avoid further delays," he said.
A report to the uMkhanyakude council meeting late last month suggests while there were a few procedural errors, it did not conclude that Bukhosini was not suited for the job.
