The municipality is now fully reliant on boreholes leading to water cuts in the area.

Spokesperson Mduduzi Dlamini says the wells give eleven mega litres of water a day.

He says the Hluhluwe River is at around 1%.

"We are implementing water rationing. We have drilled boreholes so that we can ensure that Hhluhuwe residents are given this water.

"There are so many areas such as Hluhluwe, KwaHlabisa, uMkhuze and Jozini all those areas will be highly affected by these water cuts," he said.
