Umhlanga drive-by shooting leads to suspect manhunt
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
There is a manhunt for a group of gunmen who opened fire on a car in Umhlanga, north of Durban.
Police say yesterday morning at about 10 O'Clock, a Mercedes Benz with just the driver inside came under attack when shots were fired at it from a VW Golf 7 at the intersection of Umhlanga Rocks Drive and Village Way in Sunningdale.
The occupant of the Mercedes Benz survived the shooting. Two other cars are understood to have been caught in the crossfire but their occupants also escaped unharmed, although their cars were damaged.
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane says they are hunting down those involved.
"There are no arrests made at this stage. The occupants of the VW Golf 7 fled the scene shortly after the shooting," he said.
"Police have opened a case of attempted murder and the motive for the shooting is still unclear," Zwane said.
