Umgeni working tirelessly to restore water in eThekwini
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Umgeni Water says its working tirelessly to ensure water is provided to residents in the southern and northern parts of Durban.
A water pump at Inanda Dam failed on Friday restricting the inflow of water to the eThekwini municipality.
Spokesperson Shami Harichunder says they are aware of the impact the lack of water has on residents and are trying to complete the work as soon as possible.
"In the meantime what we are doing in order to mitigate the situation is to divert water from certain areas to others that are not getting water", he said.
"We are doing this to allow the reservoir levels to reach about 42%, so we are doing this on a rotational bases as a mitigation measure", Harichunder said.
He says they've also allowed water tankers to use water from Hazelmere Dam to ensure residents have water.
