Umgeni Water admits
irregular expenditure at the water utility remains an ongoing issue.
It presented its annual financial report at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday.
Chief Financial Officer Thami Mkhwanazi says some of the irregular spendings is historic.
"The accumulative irregular expenditure for 2021/22 amounted to R1.9 billion. Last year we reported R1.4 billion, so an increase of about R500 million in irregular expenditure.
"New irregular expenditure was R161 million which means that the rest of the 500 related to the contract which we found to be irregular in the previous financial years."
