Umgeni Municipality seeks control over electricity supply from uMsunduzi
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Umngeni Local Municipality says it's started talks with its neighbour, Umsunduzi Municipality about taking over electricity supply for some areas in Midlands.

Both municipalities fall under the Umgungundlovu district.
Umngeni's mayor, Sizwe Sokhela says they believe this will ease the pressure on the struggling uMsunduzi.
He says it will improve service delivery to communities such as Hilton.
"We also understand that in terms of demarcation, Hilton is within the Umgeni municipality and they are paying their rates to us. But the issue of electricity is handled by uMsunduzi Municipality.

In the past we have seen a lot of challenges that are confronted by our ratepayers there, that is why now we are trying to persuade uMsunduzi to allow us to take over the issues of electricity so that we can assist our ratepayers."
