Ulundi family speaks of ‘unbearable pain’ after killing of two young girls

A northern KwaZulu-Natal family that lost two girls who were kidnapped and killed say they are still in shock.

Tragedy hit the Shongwe family in Ulundi after 12-year-old Asimbonge and her seven-year-old sister Sandakahle Manana went missing last week.
Both bodies of the children were found dumped in the nearby bushes in KwaZondela with assaults and strangulation injuries last Friday and Sunday, respectively.
It's understood that the suspect, who is also the children’s stepfather, wanted to inflict pain on the mother of the children after ending their relationship.
A man was been taken in for questioning by the Ulundi police but no arrests have been made yet.
“We are still shocked as a family because we have always seen and heard of such incidents of gender-based violence on the news, but we never thought we would have to face the same reality,” says Thokozani Shongwe, who is the spokesperson for the family.
“There are no words to explain the unbearable pain we are going through.”
