UKZN Westville lectures still suspended
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Gates at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Westville campus will remain closed today.
Lectures have been suspended for a second day following violent protests that erupted at the facility on Sunday night.
Several vehicles were stoned and set alight while a building was also torched, allegedly by angry students.
It is understood they want UKZN to reverse a decision to close the Registration Appeal Committee process.
The ANC Youth League says this will exclude students from disadvantaged communities.
The league's Thanduxolo Sabela says they have condemned the violent nature of the protest.
"We cannot on one hand be calling for more infrastructure and for universities to build more residences for students but at the same time reverse our own gain by burning infrastructure, burning cars of the university and even assaulting people.
"We believe in a democratic country which has platform where we all have a right to engage," he said.
