UKZN task team to tackle outsourcing issues

Striking UKZN students and workers have accused university management of not taking them seriously.

Earlier today lectures at Howard College campus were disrupted by protesters demanding that workers employed by outside companies be hired directly by the university.
UKZN registrar, Simon Mokoena met with the protesters this afternoon assuring them a task team is looking into the matter.
"The management of the university views the issue of the insourcing, outsourcing in a very serious light as you do. I'm not saying this because I'm standing here and I have to say something. I'm saying this because management is in continuous engagement meetings in an effort to try and find the best way of dealing with the situation," he says.
But the Young Communist League's Bongisa Mjikwa says although the SRC appreciates the university's efforts, he feels his time was wasted.
"I feel disappointed that management came and said nothing for over an hour. There's nothing tangible we can celebrate and students and workers. They came ant the process they might follow. Even today," he said.
