In a statement released a short while ago,  the university says clinical teaching in hospitals has also been put on hold.

Management says MBChB students won't be able to gain access to the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine campus until further notice.

The university says it's 'concerned about the impact the continuing impasse with students has had on the academic programme'.

Management says it's doing all it can to resolve the issues raised.

They are warning against illegal protests, saying police will be on hand to keep things under control.

There have been protests by students almost daily at the campus this past week, over what they say is overcrowding in the doctor training programme.

The students are also calling for the probe into the sale of admissions to the medical school to be wrapped up and those involved brought to book.

At a press conference earlier today, Vice-Chancellor Albert van Jaarsveld said they were dealing decisively with corruption.

He told journalists that a staff member involved in the sale of places has already been dismissed, while others have been served with suspension notices.
