UKZN students with historic debt to graduate
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
University of KwaZulu-Natal students who completed their studies in 2013, 2014 and 2015 but could not receive their degrees because of outstanding debts will now be allowed to graduate.
The university's Lesiba Seshoka says the agreement was reached following a meeting between management and student leadership around issues of student funding last week.
He says students who were approved to receive aid from National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) may return to the university and will be funded provided they still meet the scheme's requirements.
"Students who qualified for NSFAS in 2013, 2014 or last year but could not be funded due to unavailability of funds and as a result they may have accumulated debt, they will be assisted in terms of the historic debt funding," he said.
