They're complaining about cramped living conditions and their safety.

"When we stepped out of the bus, someone got mugged right infront of us. The conditions are so poor, the rooms are so small, they are dirty but then, we are still trying to fight, it’s just that we are settling because we had no other choice.”

They say in some instances - 14 students are sharing two fridges and one stove, while seven share one bathroom.

Some rooms apparently don't have study desks.

This Westville campus student says security is also a major problem.

"They are allocated far from the security guard. The fencing is not in good condition in such a way that anyone can jump the fence and do whatever they want. Students fear for their lives."

UKZN management says it's in talks with student representatives to try and resolve the issues raised.
