UKZN ready for Level 3 phased reopening
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) says it's ready for the next step of the phased reopening of the tertiary institution.
Under Level 4 of the lockdown, campuses allowed for the controlled return of final year students in programmes that required clinical training – this included medicine and nursing.
Under Level 3, strict health and safety protocols - just over a third of the students at each facility will be allowed to return.

UKZN's Normah Zondo says there'll be daily screenings and staff and students will be supplied with two cloth masks.
"UKZN requires that all classes and meetings take place remotely, where possible the library will remain closed until further notice. Arrangements have been made for screening, testing, quarantine when necessary, and the provision of personnel protective equipment.
"Daily screening for symptoms using the self-screening app will be undertaken. For those who do not have access to smartphones, the screening will be conducted by our security personnel at UKZN," she says.
