UKZN cleaning, security employees demand salary hike
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Protests have broken out at UKZN's Westville Campus.

University spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka says those protesting are employees of private cleaning and security companies contracted by the institution.
Seshoka says they want better pay from their employers.
"Apparently, they are demanding an increase of R10 000 a month. These are the issues that the companies that employ them will have to look into but as a university, we have made it clear to the companies that we need them to meet their contractual obligations," he said.
Meanwhile, the Durban University of Technology has suspended its academic programme for the week due to protest.
Classes there are expected to resume on Monday.
