Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The University of KwaZulu-Natal says it's begun a staggered approach to phase-in students as the 2021 academic year commences.
About 13 000 registered students will be permitted to return to campus, including res. The university says there'll be no contact classes but students eligible to return to campus will be contacted individually.
UKZN spokesperson Normah Zondo says first-year students are expected to start in March.
"This approach aims to ensure that all measures to minimise health risks remain in place for the protection of our students", she said.
"On the 8th of February we will be expecting SRC representatives as as campus representative councils. On the 19th we will be expecting residents, assistants as well as residence Life Officers", Zondo said.
"On the 2th we then expect final year students in the program requiring access to lab equipment to return", she said.
Students who weren't able to access the university's online learning platform last year- will also return.
