The announcement was made by the Premier's Office, following a meeting between Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, the university management and the SRC.

The MEC headed up a task team set up by the Premier to help end the impasse that has seen violent disruptions on campuses over the last few weeks.

Mshengu says among the agreements was for all students who are funded by NSFAS this year but still owe the university to be cleared for registration.

"1 425 students have been cleared and will be able to register. Then there is a category of students whose family income is below R350 000 and fall under the category of those who are owing", he said.

"We then a greed on a small team to say they must deal with this on a case-by-case approach because they are some students who are on their final year and to hold them back will be detrimental to their future", Mshengu said.
