UIF in KZN resumes payment of former teachers, assistants

The UIF in KZN has
resumed its project to pay former teaching and general assistants.

The campaign to pay unemployment benefits began in the Amajuba District in November.
Payments to the tune of around R7.7 million were made to more than 1 700 educators.
In eThekwini, 6 204 beneficiaries were funded from a total of R28.8 million in December.

The UIF's deputy director of communications Lungelo Mkamba says they have started paying out claims in the Zululand District, which will run until 20 January.
"Teaching and general assistants were employed as part of the Presidential Youth Initiative, which was implemented across nine provinces to reduce youth unemployment in the country.
"When their contracts ended the former employees qualified to claim unemployment insurance benefits from the UIF," He adds.
