Ugu facing water supply double-blow - DA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Democratic Alliance says after KwaZulu-Natal's devastating floods Ugu's water infrastructure damage jumped to 50%.
The party says it's added to the south coast municipality's long list of water problems.
The DA's Rishigen Viranna says officials can no longer drag their feet on basic service delivery issues which have been affecting residents for years.
He says newly-installed water pipes were among those damaged in the floods.
"There are over 90 water pipes breaks just within the central region of the municipality.
"The south-central region overs the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, so the areas currently without water include Heberden Port Shepstone, Margate, Ramsgate, Port Edward, Izingolweni, Gamalakhe and Murchison."
Viranna says they're asking the MEC for COGTA to get the army involved.
"Reassign and prioritise the duties of the SANDF in the Ugu district as the MEC of Cogta during his is empowered by the management act to direct disasters services within KwaZulu-Natal."
